Scoville scale! Kind of like a Richter Scale for one of the easiest to grow and most versatile vegetable around.

And that is the PEPPER! This week on In the Garden with UC Master Gardeners, MG Mark Fierle talks to fellow Master Gardener Brian Hale about all you need to know to grow peppers in your garden.
Bell, Thai, Banana, Cayenne, Italian, Sweet, Hot, Hotter, and HOTTEST! You name it! You can grow it. Know how you want to use your peppers and judge the variety using the Scoville scale.
Even a sweet bell pepper has 100 Scoville Heat Units (SHUs). A TAM Jalapeno only has 1500 SHUs. A Habanero has 350,000 SHUs. In comparison, Pepper Spray and the hottest varieties have 2,000,000 SHUs. So know your tolerance for HOT!
