Phoenix canariensis (FEE-nicks kan-air-ee-EN-sis)

AKA Pineapple Palm (when trimmed the upper trunk or ‘nut’ looks like a pineapple)
Located at four corners of park as ‘entry trees’
Native to Canary Islands which are a part of Spain; brought to this continent by the Spanish missionaries
Called a ‘feather palm’ due to shape of leaves
Average height 60 feet with a 50 feet spread of canopy
Fronds are very sharp and pose a danger when falling
3/4" fruit or drupe (like a plum or apricot); edible but not much meat
