- Belongs to ‘pea’ family
- Has ‘heart shaped’ leaves; Western Redbud has round leaves
- Purple/pink flowers in spring with hanging seed pods in fall
- Deciduous, with good fall color
- Average height 20 to 30 feet and width 20 to 35 feet
- 40 to 50 year life expectancy
