Gardening Safety, Tools and Tips As We Age

Description: In this interactive presentation, you will learn how to make gardening both safer and more pleasurable for continued enjoyment. Topics discussed will include: garden safety, proper clothing, preventing falls, pre-gardening exercises, hazard awareness, and using both tools and technology to make gardening easier and to reduce the risk of strain, pain and fatigue. Learn how to reach, prune, lift, weed, dig, kneel and reduce falls as well as how to get down and back up. The goal is for you to walk away with new techniques to make your gardening both safer and more enjoyable!

UC Master Gardener Presenter Stu Dalton: Stu has gardened for over 60 years, and is a UC Master Gardener and American Rose Society Master Rosarian. He had two total knee replacements and has adapted his gardening techniques to continue his enjoyment of tending his large garden, which includes over 150 roses, ornamental flowers, native plants, organic fruit and vegetables.
