Mission Heirloom Garden Cafe

Some months ago, I was reading about the opening of a cafe/restaurant in San Francisco which served Paleo-oriented, non-GMO, and mostly grain-free cuisine, and that article referenced Mission Heirloom Garden Cafe in Berkeley, CA, as being the only other restaurant of its kind in the Bay Area.  Intrigued and knowing that I would be in Berkeley during an upcoming weekend, I made plans to visit  Mission Heirloom Garden Cafe.

Although Mission Heirloom Garden Cafe serves tasty food, the reason for blogging about it here, is because of the beautiful, rustic, outdoor garden that visitors dine in.  Fig trees, artichoke plants, and dwarf fruit trees dot the perimeter.  Herbs cascade out of window boxes.  Planters consisting of blueberry and other fruit shrubs, provide privacy between the tables.  Health and wellness permeate this space.  There is good energy, for lack of a better term.  Indeed, it has not gone unnoticed, as this space received an award for design excellence in 2015.

I visited  Mission Heirloom Garden Cafe in January, when most of the plants were still dormant.  I plan on visiting again this spring or summer, when the garden is in full bloom, which will be a sight to behold.  If you find yourself in the East Bay this year, consider stopping by.  For more information, please see http://www.missionheirloom.com/
