About the Event
Gardening with California Natives
Description: Are you interested in learning more about growing California native plants and why they are so important in every garden? Do you grow some natives, but want to learn more about them? UC Master Gardeners will give a free introductory talk on growing California natives with tips on easy-to-grow plants and how to maintain them. After the presentation, we will tour the native plant garden adjacent to the library and see firsthand many of the plants discussed.
UC Master Gardener Presenters
- Cathrin Callas: Cathrin joined the UC Master Gardener program in 2022 after retiring from a career in engineering. A California native, her life-long love of flowering plants includes a particular interest in California native plants. She currently lives and gardens in San Carlos.
- Carolyn Dorsch: Carolyn has always had a deep admiration and affinity for all plants, marveling at their incredible ability to survive and thrive in a myriad of conditions. She enjoys seeing plants in their natural habitat, in all seasons, and applies her knowledge of how California natives grow in the wild in order to cultivate them in the garden.
- Kathleen Goforth: After retiring from a long career as a scientist and manager with the EPA, Kathleen trained under former Vice President Al Gore to become a Climate Reality Leader. She grows locally native plants in her front yard and fruits and vegetables in her backyard. Her primary interests are climate change mitigation and adaptation, restoring native biodiversity, and regenerative production of healthy food.
