Perennials are flowering plants that live longer than two seasons. Some are evergreen; others die back at the end of the flowering season and then regrow from the same roots the following year. Perennials are dependable and easy. They are available in a huge variety of colors, textures, forms, and fragrances.

These low-effort plants provide a reliable bloom year after year. They include Penstemon, sage (Salvia), and the sun-loving Coreopsis. Many live long lives; others, called "short-lived," only last a few years. Bloom times also vary. Some perennials have a short, intense bloom. Others start blooming in spring and don't stop till frost appears.
