About the Event

We all love our Wisteria.  Would you like to learn how best to care for and train it for optimal flowering?  If so, this is the class for you!  We offer it only once every two or three years.

Program:  This class covers the growth and training methods that will provide optimal flowering.  It includes a discussion of the culture and history of wisteria and identification and discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of the different species of wisteria.

Speaker:  Pete Churgel is a Certified Aesthetic Pruner, an ISA Certified Arborist, and an instructor in the Merritt College Landscape Horticulture Department.  He is a favorite lecturer and hands-on instructor for the Marin Master Gardeners’ Pruning Guild. He has conducted hands-on aesthetic pruning classes at Merritt College and throughout the Bay Area and beyond.

Pete volunteers his time in prominent public and private gardens in the Bay Area, Fresno and Seattle.  He is a long-time member and pruning instructor for the Alameda Master Gardener Program and a member of the East Bay Bonsai Society.  His business specializes in aesthetic pruning to enhance the natural beauty of small trees, shrubs and vines, including those in Japanese, Mediterranean, English, and California native gardens.
