About the Event

shovel soil and vetch

This is a follow-up to the Palo Alto Library talk "Love Your Santa Clara County Clay!" This event will include "how to" demonstrations.

Working with your clay soil can transform it into the soil of your "heart's delight."  See how the compacted clay soil at the Palo Alto Demonstration Garden (PADG) has been managed to make productive beds for vegetables, fruit trees, blueberry bushes, and water-wise ornamental plants.

You will learn about digging techniques, determining which amendments and fertilizers are needed, lab soil tests, and using cover crops and mulches. We will also discuss how to manage common soil-dwelling pests and diseases.

Note: Class will be canceled if it's raining.

Location: Palo Alto Demonstration Garden, 851 Center Dr, Palo Alto
