Nic is a valuable member of the Post-Fire Forest Resilience team, where they leverage their expertise to empower private landowners and natural resource professionals in effectively managing post-fire landscapes. They are particularly interested in spatial dynamics in early seral reforestation dynamics, utilizing tools like remote sensing.
Nic is focused on developing innovative land management tools that bridge the gap between practical, on-the-ground observations and effective strategies, ensuring that land managers' insights directly inform future research.
Prior to this role, Nic's contributions to significant projects as a Field Technician with Berkeley Forests and as a student researcher at the York Pyrosilviculture Lab earned them the 2022 Weaver Undergraduate Student Excellence Award from the Association of Fire Ecology. Nic also demonstrated leadership as co-president of the Student Association for Fire Ecology (SAFE) and the Cal Forestry Club, leading the latter to recognition as the 2021 Outstanding National Chapter of the Year by the Society of American Foresters (SAF)
They serve on the Steering Committee for the Forestry & Natural Resources Career Mentorship Program, are a member of the Reforestation Pipeline Monitoring Huddle, and act as a Fire Effects Monitor for the Incident Management Team at the Plumas Prescribed Fire Training Exchange (TREX).
