Citizenship and Leadership

4-H strives to develop young people who are engaged and informed citizens.  Through hands-on activities, members learn leadership, empathy, communication, and organization while expanding their role in decision-making processes.  With intentional connection to their communities, youth come to understand "the big picture" and their role in civic affairs.

What is citizenship?

  • Image removed.
    Who we are (legal citizenship)
  • What we believe (patriotic citizenship)
  • What we do (active citizenship)

Legal citizenship focuses on a citizen's government-guaranteed rights and privileges, as well as duties and responsibilities.

Patriotic citizenship describes the basic beliefs and values that we share.  Our commitment to the ideal of democracy is one of those values.

Active citizenship focuses on collective action to address common concerns.  It entails getting involved, making decisions, and taking action to create a better world.

So how can you get involved with 4-H citizenship?
